I was very much inspired by one of my clients this week. She came to our session with an “in style” again friendship bracelet on her wrist. I remembered the fun I had making bracelets like this when I was a kid. Never had I thought of giving one to myself.
She explained to me that she created her super snazzy (colours inspired by Prada’s fall line) bracelet to symbolize and claim her ever growing friendship with herself. Right away I was in love with this idea and couldn’t wait to share it and make one myself. What a fun and creative way to signify a friendship with ourselves.
Our relationship with ourselves is the most important relationship we will ever have. We come into this world alone, leave this world alone and spend every waking and sleeping moment with ourselves. So what stops us from treating ourselves as #1? Most of us are conditioned to create relationships with others before ourselves. We want to be a good friend, a good employee, a good husband/wife/partner, a good pet owner, a good neighbour. And we tend to forget about ourselves in the process- the one person we sleep with each and every single night of our lives.
This week I invite you to think about your friendship with yourself? Do you treat yourself the way you would a friend, a loved one? If not, it’s time to start. Today, claim your friendship with yourself and commit to creating an empowering and loving relationship with you.
To start, what would a healthy friendship with you look and feel like? (what/who would you say “yes, no” to?, how would you talk to yourself? how would you take care of your body? your feelings? your spirit? how would you honour yourself, what would you give yourself permission to do? etc)
