The absence of sound, speech, muteness, no noise, peace, quietude.

My experience of silence described: Nourishing . Re-vitalizing . Energizing . Letting go of Mental Guck . Connecting . Releasing . Listening . Deepening . Clearing . Healing . Feeling . Being

When was the last time, you carved out some time to be silent with yourself?  It is so easy to get caught up in our day to day lives and swept away in the busyiness of it all that we deprive ourselves from spending time in our inner worlds.

Some of you might be thinking – “I live alone, I am always in silence, why would I ever want to do this?”  This is a different type of silence, a silence where you set the intention to connect and take time to be with you, without any outer distractions (no smartphones, tv, computers, radio). The idea might even scare you or bring about feelings of anxiety or nervousness.

Creating a space for silence allows us to connect with our inner voice and with what lies deeper in our hearts.  Once you cut through the chatter and whirlpool activity of your mind, you will find a place where you can connect, listen to your truth and hear the call of your heart.

When we absolve all outer distractions, we come face to face with our inner world, which is often starving for attention and screaming for us to hear its call. The truth lives here in our silence.  And our silence gives birth to all the answers you will ever need.  As Rumi, the great poet (BC1207) said, “Sit quietly and listen to the voice that will say, be more silent.”

This week, take an hour of conscious silence.  Carve out the time and space to be alone with you without any outside distractions (turn off your phone, tv, computer, radio and any other outside noises).   You can bring out your journal to express your thoughts and feelings, take a salt bath, do some light yoga.  Allow whatever needs to come out or be heard.

In the spirit of silence,

Jenn
